Is it possible to produce a screw that can process HDPE as well as LLDPE? IP: Logged |

quote: In an ideal world the screw should be designed for the specific material, but obviously companies use a range of materials and would prefer not to have to change screw when they change material. What we do at PolyTech Consultants is to design an ideal screw for each material in the range, then design a compromise screw, which is not perfect for any of the materials but will process all of them satisfactorily. Actually, yes, it is possible to produce both HDPE & LLDPE. However, I have found it is easier to go from HDPE to LLDPE on an HDPE line than to go from LLDPE to HDPE on an LLDPE line. Since most HDPE lines have a grooved feed section and most LLDPE lines do not, it's easier to run with an HDPE designed screw. Also, if you utilize a segmented screw, the segments can be changed to allow a better design to be used for both materials. Hope that helps. Jeff de los Santos IP: Logged |
