Can you say the full name of "DBLS"?? I've
never heard this term before. I know there are sulfur-based plasticisers/stabilisers out there for flex. PVC, but am not familiar with this name. (I've been involved with PVC technology for the past 40 years.)

I ran accross this entirely by accident.

DI BASIC LEAD STEARATE

SPECIFICATIONS :

APPEARANCE
WHITE FINE POWDER

MELTING POINT
114 - 118 C

MOISTURE CONTENT
0.3 % MAX.

LEAD CONTENT
51 - 53 %

FREE FATTY ACID CONTENT
1.0 % MAX

PROPERTIES/APPLICATIONS: - Di Basic Lead Stearate ( DBLS ) is a heat stabilizer and a high temperature lubricant for PVC. The free lead oxide content contribute towards better stability and the free fatty acid imparts lubrication. Di Basic Lead Stearate should be used with Tri Basic Lead Stearate and Lead Stearate. Di Basic Lead Stearate is extensively used in cables, PVC processing, rigid extrusion and calendaring operations.
TOXICITY: -
DI BASIC LEAD STEARATE SHOULD NOT BE USED IN ARTICLES THAT COME IN CONTACT WITH THE FOODSTUFF

Absolutely correct!! I did not think about
lead, since the original post spoke of
plasticizer usage!

Dibasic lead stearate, tribasic lead sulfate,
dibasic lead phthalate, are the major stabilizers used in flexible PVC wire and cable compounds, primarily due to their low volume resistivity properties.

Due to toxicity concerns, work has been underway to replace lead compounds, but it's not an easy task.
