I have to do a thesis on any ONE of the following topics for my masters course. Could anybody give me some advise as to which topic is good to work on. 1) Filled engineering plastics : Nylon and PC filled with nano sized fillers (MMT , saponite) and study properties of these filled polymers. 2) Blends of polysulfones: Impact strength of these polymers can be improved by addition of impact modifiers.Mechanical, electrical and thermal properties of these 3) Universal polymeric master batches: with polyethylene and polystyrene. 4) FRP based on speciality epoxy resins: Reinforce epoxy resins with fibres and study their properties. 5) Evaluation of toxicity index of polymeric compounds: Different compounds will be prepared containing different Any suggestions will be appreciated. Why is this in the extrusion forum? And why can't you identify yourself further? Nevertheless, here is a reply: 1. This is my suggestion as the best idea. Nanoclays are a hot topic (see last ANTEC papers and contact authors) and you'll have lots of recent work to review. I'd like to see more work in extrusion, especially with the cheaper plastics (PE, PS, PVC) -- most of what I've seen has been with injection molding of engineering plastics. I'd like to know how do these additives affect the extrusion PROCESS? 2. Polysulfones = most exotic of the 5 ideas, limited market, not in mainstream of plastics industry, but might get you recognized at big companies who use polysulfones. 3. Universal concentrate. May be useful, but what's wrong with separate concentrate carriers for each resin family? I would like to see a study of the viscosity of carriers and concentrates (as function of temperature and shear rate), as this affects the ease of mixing. 4. Epoxies aren't normally extruded, so that's another world to me. 5. Toxicity of plastics is an ideological jungle. It has less to do with plastics and more to do with people who are doing the wrong things (junk science) for the right reasons (our health). They are preying on anxieties we all have about an impersonal and super-technological world run by corporate executives who milk the public, etc.,etc. They talk in numberless absolutes and use plastics (and other things) to divert attention from the sacred right to consume what one wants when one wants it, and they call that "freedom." If you want to jump into this pool, go ahead, but leave me out. I hope this has been helpful. ALG IP: Logged |
