Is there a difference between a feed screw and an auger? If so what is it and what are the intended purposes of both. IP: Logged |

I would say that most of the time a feed screw stays in one position and moves material from one end to another. While an auger does the actual moving and goes through the material. Augers normally have welded on fligths and feed screw are mosty milled from a solid bar stock of steel. One man's opinion, do we have others? IP: Logged |

Ron just about summed it up. The feed screw is much more durable as compared to an auger - which simply conveys materials. IP: Logged |

My 2cents worth: as Ron has stated, an auger conveys material without changing its state. Whereas a feedscrew homogenizes while conveying and if driven by adequet horsepower (in the case od thermoplastics) melts the material by mechanical shearing. Steve Hodgson IP: Logged |
