BIGB,

Solving extrusion problems is like detective work. We need a lot of details to solve the problem.

Your question is akin to running up to a detective and saying "a crime has been committed" and then asking "who did it".

Let us start with some basics like;

How big are the holes?
Describe the extruders.
Describe the sheet you are making.
Describe the things that have not worked.

Usually if I have covered all the basic things and nothing works, I shut down the extruder, take it apart, clean out all the buildups, and replace the missing metal. When put back together in proper order, 99 times out of 100 that will solve the mystery problem.

WE STARTED HAVING THIS PROBLEM AFTER REPLACING THE SCREW WITH A BARRIER SCREW, ITS A 41/2" EXTRUDER WE THOUGHT IT WAS MOISTURE, WE ELIMINATED THAT, WE THINK ITS AIR CAUSED BY THE SCREW DESIGN? WE ARE RUNNING P.E.T. THE HOLES ARE FORM A A16TH OF AN INCH TO ONE FULL INCH.

Hi Bigb

We hear you- there's no need to shout

What's the L/D of your machine, is the barrel vented. What can you tell us about the design of your new screw? What process parameters are you setting, and what are you getting?

What gauge sheet, what sort of die? When you say you eliminated moisture as a cause, how did you do that. Finally on the question front, are you running regrind?
