I will appreciate any helpful comments to check the following design for a screw to process PET (bottle grade) for a through put of 70 kg/hour,can this screw produce 70 kg/hour of PET with an acceptable melt condition.

1-screw dia.:65 mm

2-L/D ratio :22

3-feed flight depth :2.6 mm

4-compression ratio :2.4

5-screw profile :feed 50%,transition 25%,metering 25%

Looking forward to help me.

What horsepower / KW motor?

What is the gear-in speed / gearbox ratio?

What process / what are you making?

What quality is needed - highest quality? Or do you need most possible rate? What is "acceptable"?

Is this a barrier design (I guess not)? Any mixing devices (Maddock, etc.)?

Is the resin dried? What IV?

This is a smooth-bore extruder, right?

My answer for this sort of question is usually "try it and see"- might not be perfect, but might be "acceptable". I've seen some people try screws that should be horrible by all standards, but work very well.
