I am trying to find out the impact on equipment when connecting barrel heating band in parallel to the same phase source.

Hi Rick

Welcome to the single screw forum.
I'm a little unclear on your question, are you asking, what would be the effect of connecting all the barrel heating zones to a single controller.

You could do this, and extrude material, but you would get less material throughput and it would not be as well mixed also. I like to optimize each zone to get to a point where I'm getting maximum output of the highest quality material. Take a look at Allan Griff's article on Extrusion Sacred Cows (no 4) http://www.pma-magazine.com/articles/2003/July/7

Many heaters are wired for 230V or 460V.

If you have 460, the two heater segments should be wired in series.

If you have 230V, the two segments should be wired in parallel.

A lot of lines are hooked up with several segments on the same phase, shouldn't be a big deal (as long as you don't take them all from the same phase through the whole plant).

Is that what you were asking?
