SPR Friction Tester for plastic pellets and powders.

This friction tester is able to determine the frictional coefficient of platics against metal and other materials. The fictional coefficient can vary greatly with surface temperature, velocity, and pressure. Additionally the type of metal can greatly influence the frictional coefficient. This friction tester is able to vary all the above parameters so that the optimal frictional coefficients can be found for processes like plastics extrusion.

In plastics extrusion having a minimal frictional coefficient on the screw, and maximizing the coefficient on the barrel can greatly improve the extrusion rate and stability.

Sure would be nice to find the ideal frictional coefficient for molton polymers to that of the screw surface, but me thinks this might be a bit of overkill if there is no history already derived from its use in the field.

What dat has it poduced so far, and what is the Ra values of the steel's used to optimize this coefficient?

Oh yes, the cost is?

The price of the unit is $70,000 US.

A testing service is being offered; An 800 point test for a single metal sample against a single polymer of temperature vs. velocity vs. pressure is $1,000.00 .

The unit only tests solids against solids, but can be adapted to put those solids in an environment such as oil.

The metal samples can have any surface you would like to test. Grooves tend to produce results greater than the measuring capability of the unit.

Temperature of the metal tends to be the controlling variable for a given combination.

I will post some results data and success stories in the future.
