Least someone think that people do not pay attention to what they read, I'd like to mention that page 26 of this issue refers to our very own Tom C. IP: Logged |

Love to read it Louis, unfortunately SPE HQ has decided that they will no longer mail PE to SPE members ouside of the US, effective with the April edition (the editorial gives mail delays as the reason-yeah right!!). This type of rip off has been occuring with SPE's divisions for some time, with division news letters not being sent to memberss out of the US. At this point, I think I won't be renewing next time round, unless there's going to be a discount for Members who don't get the full deal. Congrats anyway Tom Steve IP: Logged |

Steve, There seems to be a problem with the server. I'll let Ron know. You can delete the multilpe posts. As far as the SPE is concerned, they got themselves into some big financial problems and have been cutting corners to try and save money. I'm not too thrilled with some of their moves either. But I'm not sure we should punish the current managment for the past mistakes of others. ------------------

I don't have a problem with them changing membership conditions at the start of their subscription period, but to change part way through that period is unethical. Steve IP: Logged |

Tom, I'm not so sure that all the mistakes were those of "others." The current leadership is still well out at sea, not yet quite adrift. Society membership is less rewarding that it used to be when resin makers reported lots of practical work that helped processors, when personal contacts were more important, when the SPE was less academized, when people news had to do with real plastics engineers and not just executive accession to powers, and when the Internet wasn't so prominent. Even paper journals become obsolete (I read Plastics News every day on my computer, and get PT articles on line). But that's the way the wind is blowing, and we'd better learn to sail with it (New Zealanders know all about that). Allan Griff IP: Logged |
