I am a student and i am looking for any kind of information concerning single screw extruder used in food industry(manufacturer, associations..). I also want to have information on why does someone choose to work with a single screw extruder instead of a twin screw extruders?

Bonjour--
In the Extrusion Division of the Society of Plastic Engineers, I (as a board member) am trying to start a special interest group on processing material other than plastic. Food extrusion would be a large part of this as it is widely done.

A twin screw is used when a great amount of mixing and combining of materials is required. "Mastication" (chewing) type of mixing is possible which cannot be done with a single screw. However, twin screw machines are more complex, much more expensive, and are more difficult to maintain. So, a single screw machine is used whenever possible.

Contact C.W.Brabender Inc. in South Hackensack N.J. (they also have a web site)
They have a LONG history of food extrusion with their lab sized test extruders---called Farinographs, for testing pastas!
Their history with the food industry goes back to the 1930's!!

I did a Google search, and there are many sources listed here. Some of them might be useful to you.
