We have a 30 mm Extruder where we extrude FEP, PFA and ETFE. Is it possible to extruder PUR with high melt flow rate using Tubing extrusion. The screw is Hastalloy. Where can i find information regarding screw calculations and extruder design.. thanks in advance.... IP: Logged |

My very limited experience with PUR says that it can be tricky in the feed zones. If the feed zone is too cold you will torque out, and if too hot it will not feed. Moisture, degradation and high powder draw are issues. Make sure your Hastalloy screw is well protected from breakage. There is a lot of information on screw design on the net and through technical books. In my opinion if you want really tight control of the process you need a good extrusion simulation program. I only know of only one simulation program that works consistently, and it is no longer a commercial product. I have access to this program if anyone is interested further.
