hello, we're having problem with our single screw extruder, particularly in the gearbox, bec. the extruder will run for few days, but after that, the pinion gear of the gearbox gets wornout, means all the teeth gets damages. We're using Horizontal type gearbox, size 140,ratio 14:1, while the extruder specs is; barrel O.D = 150mm , screw dia.90mm, length 2115mm, 10 heater @ 2kw ea. We're extruding LLDPE. I will appreciate your recomendations on this... thank you IP: Logged |

Hello uwit Welcome to the single screw forum Can you post some pictures that show the wear and general layout of the gearbox. Do you have the makers name of your machine? ------------------ If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. IP: Logged |

If your gearbox is seizing, are you replacing both gears each time? If not, how do you manage to get it running again? Sounds like some big problems that will require a rebuild. -Bob C. IP: Logged |

Check the tolerance, between the screw and barrels, some time big tolerance more than 1-2 mm, cause high vibration to the gearbox and in counsecuence damage it. Rember that the screw has just one point for attach, the gear box attach. the effect of deflection in big tolerance cause what I explain before regards Giacomo IP: Logged |
