I am looking for advice with respect to extrusion tooling material. Part of my extrusion process involves the application of a thin wall HDPE (circa 2mm) to a super duplex steel tube (stainless steel)Steel tube OD 19mm. The tooling must also be stainless steel as there can be no dissimilar metal contact. However, stainless steel tooling is also very vulnerable to damage as it cannot be sufficiently hardened. Does anyone have any experience with alternate tooling material? Possibly ceramic, or any non-metallic materials with high abrasion resistance that I could use as an insert. Extrusion temp various with material, but circa 200c. Any thoughts appreciated. ------------------ IP: Logged |

How about a percipitation hardening grade like 17-4PH? Also there are other performance grades of stainless like 440C. ------------------ Tom Cunningham www.ExtrusionTechnicalServices.com IP: Logged |
