Hi... I'm just starting to scratch the surface of trying to understand this plastics market. And this seems like the very best website to learn! Hoping you can be of help to me, and I'd be happy to help you in any way. My company, Decker Tape, converts and manufactures all kinds of pressure-sensitive tape. We supply a HUGE amount of one tape product to a plastic extruder company. It's a 2" red PVC thermoformable tape used for splicing, and that's ALL I know about this. Any insights into how this may be used exactly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any input! Betsy Mathisen bmathisen@deckertape.com IP: Logged |

Hi BetsyYour customer may be using the tape to stick his sheet to a cardboard core. You wrap a few turns sticky side to the core, then roll the tape over, and wrap a number of spiralling turns sticky side out- then reverse the tape and stick it to the core at the other end. Messy, time consuming, and prone to slip- I prefer double sided tape. Three or four wraps will stick sheet of up to 1.2mm with no problems. Although the DS tape is dearer, you use less, and no slipping of sheet on its core- so better looking rolls, and easier on the operators. Hope your client isn't a regular here :-) Steve H IP: Logged |

Thermoformable tape? Prehaps they're using it in an auto-splicer setup like PACTIV uses. The unwind stand holds two rolls, and as one runs out, it cuts it off and slaps the tail end with the beginning of the first roll and the machine continues on its merry way. (when it works right!)IP: Logged |

I think you got your answers, but another use is to "flag" a splice so that one can se just about when the splice will unroll. Some will do the splice and let some hang outside the splice. If your really interested, you ought to vist your bigger accounts. Once a tape is in the storage room - everyone finds a use for it - including personal use. Maybe they'r using it for management too, as they are infamous for tying things up with red tape. By the way, what is the base polymer your using for this red tape? Maybe it can outdo Duct Tape? IP: Logged |
