we have been experiencing a material build up on some of our die heads on two of our newer lines. the material is leaking out or catching the material looks like its burnt in colr on clear LDPE we are blending repro with virgin im wondering if it might be a high melt material in my repro. or maybe a machine problem.

Hi Bill

What's happening with the melt temps on these lines compared to your others.

Where is the repro coming from, inhouse or brought in?

Have you pulled the dies apart on these lines lately?

Have you checked the MI of the incoming repro?

Check your heats on the die stack! We had a buildup issue on a line, turns out that one of the heater controls had crashed and was cooking the resin, causing some of it to degrade and build up on the lip.

What is the melt index of your material?

What die gap are you using? Is it radiused?

What coating is on the die head - nickel, chrome, Thin Dense Chrome, Titanium Nitride, etc.?
