Dear Forum Members,Being recently involved with coextrusion, I have a few question for you guys mastered in this topic. Is multilayer blown film coextrusion of HDPE and LDPE possible, without any third tie layer? Is it wiser to have seperate layers or a blend to get the final physical strength? If one would like to run the LDPE extruder for HDPE, what parameters does have to be taken utmost care? And does it sound safe? Tx for your comments.

Hi, Im kind of new with the polyolefin biz but Im v keen to learn more abt it. Yes, I believe that HDPE and LDPE can be blended together. There's no need for any tie layer cause the are both from the same family. Does anyone know if cereal packaging uses this blend? Talking about cereal packaging, using Coex blown film, does anyone have any experience in this? What kind of materials you use and as for the sealing layer how do you achieve an easy peel? Thanx, would love to hear from you guys. Cheers[This message has been edited by magibrendan (edited November 12, 2004).] IP: Logged |

Cereal packaging may simply be a HDPE with a skin (co-ex) of EVA. This is done to achieve a fast or rapid seal.Mixing HDPE w/ LDPE can ultimately result in phase seperation if the HDPE comes close to. or exceeeds 10% by weight volume. Co-ex'ing HDPE & LDPE is a snap. but shrinkage rate are so different, it can and most like will cause a "curl" when unwinding. No tie layer is needed. IP: Logged |
