Anyone got any advice on rapid cleaning methods for screw segments for a twin0screw extruder. I use a lab-scale extruder and a variety of compounds so purging compounds have proved fairly ineffective. It seems that I always have to fully strip the screw in order to get the segments cleaned properly. This is very laborious and time-consuming! Any help?? IP: Logged |

You might want to look at dry-ice cleaning devices. They come in a few different sizes and can clean things off pretty well without messing with the metal. Hope that helps some. ------------------ IP: Logged |

In the past, I've used a Berringer Jet Cleaner, as well as a true Pyrolysis Unit. The Pyrolysis Unit does a better job, but both methods are expensive, and require disassembly. IP: Logged |

I have seen very good results using Shuman's Dynapurge on a lab size twin screw. Tom C IP: Logged |

LOOK INTO A PURGING COMPOUND CALLED BAMBERKO PURGE. IT'S AN ACRYLIC PURGING COMPOUND AND IT WORKS GREAT. IP: Logged |

In my own humble opinion, a simple crushed Acrylic will pull away anything from the screw's and barrel. Although I've never heard of BAMBERKO PURGE, I would indeed give it a try. However, read the instructions carefully, and don't try to short cut a good thing. To many people will play with heats to "accelerate" cleaning, and really screw up the screw's. I've seen to many "blue screws" in the past. IP: Logged |
