Is anyone aware of a good reference textbook for general theory, etc. on twin-screw extrusion and/or compounding.

Yes, "TWIN SCREW EXTRUSION - Technology and Principles" Author is (Dr.) James L. White, from HANSER Publishers. ISBN # is 3-446-15691-7.

Ask your local Library to do an intra-library loan, or contact HANSER.

In the US, the Distributer is OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS. One of the best books I've got.

I agree, Jim White's book on twin screw extrusion is very good!
In addition,I put together my own, non theoretical,hands-on booklet on twin screw extrusion SPECIFIC to rigid PVC. It includes a "troubleshooting guide" for rigid PVC pipe and profile extrusion problems. This booklet is self-published, and available at near my cost of US $40.
