I am starting a new project that consists of mixing fluff silica, wax, and CaCO3. I was told that pressurized feed boxes are made for the silica that attatches to the extruder barrel just before the head. Has anyone heard of this or does anyone know where I could find one of these feeders? IP: Logged |

Guido: I'venever heard of such pressurized box's to feed the light bulk density of silics. However, I have used a process that pre-sprays silica wetted out with Isopropanol solvent - prior to mixing. It allows the silica to "curl" up and in essence increase the bulk density. You can try this on a proto type basis to see if it will work for you. Additionally, I would sugggest that you use a Coupling Agent to assure that the silica will bind with the polymer matrix your using. In general, silica is a very difficult filler to incorporate into any polymer matrix. I would additionally suggest that you try to do this a a master-batch. IP: Logged |
