If anyone can help me on this topic, I would be very grateful. I have a business associate who needs to buy a lab/small production size twin screw extruder to continue work on a new product he is developing. He will have quite a bit of extra time available on the extruder, and to help cover the purchase price, would like to sell time on it. I am looking for guidance on how best to go about this: what prices are typical, and what kinds of companies and projects we might look for, and other considerations. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!! Diane IP: Logged |

What your proposing is called "Toll Compounding" Pricing depends on the equipment size, lot size, and a number of other factors. As everyone in the world with extra extruder time is in the toll compounding business, prices tend to be low. Special capabilities dramatically raise the prices that can be charged. Post industrial reclaim work is usually readily avaialble. I'm not a fan. Buy a magnet trap if you plan to reclaim to save your extruder. Good luck. ------------------

To clarify this twin screw unit is being used in food processing. The presumption in this section of the forum is plastics processing, but that is not always correct. If anyone has any input of toll processing in the food industry, please contribute. Thanks. ------------------

Hi, I am new to the extrusion field. After reading this topic, I don't really understand. What is actually 'Extra time' in extrusion? I hope someone can explain this term. Wai IP: Logged |

In this case, "extra time" means that the extruder will be sitting unused for weeks at a time, and will be available for other companies to use it. Diane IP: Logged |
