Wow, I'm not sure what you are talking about. What kind of extruder, and water filled screws? ------------------ Tom Cunningham www.ExtrusionTechnicalServices.com IP: Logged |

Hi the extruder is a Weber DS 85 with parallel screws that we put distilled water inside them to stop burning at the screw tips. But after the refurb they have come back empty. The people who did the work on them filled them last time, but they forgot this time. I was wondering how much percentage wiseto put in. IP: Logged |

Running water into and out of screw while they are running is commonplace, but I've not run into screws with water sealed in them before. PVC is typically run on this extruder, and melt temperatures are well above the boiling point of water at ATM pressure. I don't think water will boil in a closed system that is full, but the pressures could be very high. What you want to accomplish is heat transfer from the tip to the rear of the screw. When partially filled the water could turn to stream at the tip, travel to the back of the screw, and condense providing good heat transfer. I think this would work much better than totally full.

Since I'm a moderator on this forum, and other people rarely answer questions I try to help out as I can. Because I've never even heard of doing this before, I don't know the amount. I was trying to help you rationalize the amount. Of course you could always call Weber and ask them rather than being annoyed with us. If I were forced to quess, as you may be forced to, I would fill it 50%. ------------------ Tom Cunningham www.ExtrusionTechnicalServices.com IP: Logged |
