A good article Steve H.

You really do save time and much money by bringing in "experts".

Additionally, they also bring unbiased opinions (which many Managers worry about). However, in general, Senior Managers look at Consultancy as bringing much credability into the equation of solving problems - especially training.

In my eyes, you get the best bang out of the bucks expended.

General line Managers are afraid of what a Consultant can find, and are usually paranormic over what is found. However, a good Manager will ask for a draft report first, then negotiate with the Consultant by simply using less "bumpy" words. The fact is that the wisdom of Consultants usually wind up making the Manager(s) look good.
