Brought a new scope just before Christmas and rediscovered an old interest of mine, anyone interested in the night skies should check out www.cloudynights.com

Good idea Steve. Time to smell the roses and look UP. We all tend to forget about those little big things that are so naturally appealing.

Nice site, but wow, the big $$$ you must have.

Well I own a Miataa and am no stranger to the skies. It seems that more than a few Miata drivers also have an interest in gazing at the sky – especially the night sky. So my fellow club members have exposed me to more than one stargazing party over the past few months. One that comes to mind as unique is the iridium flairs (Hope I got that name right)

With the tracking technology available, we can track satellites very precisely. Knowing where the satellite is and where the sun is, we can predict exactly where on earth that the reflection of the sun off of the satellite’s solar panel will hit. Really neat. It starts out as a small moving dim light and quickly ramps up to a very bright light in the sky. Then just as quickly, it ramp s down to nothing more than a dark sky.

There is a web site that you can go to to enter your location and it will tell you where and when to look for them.
