Looking at a project involving the production of a barriered tray- We used to laminate a barrier film onto HIPS in the mid nineties, and dumped the edge trim/startup etc. Anyone got a line on how this could be reused in the HIPS substrate?Steve H IP: Logged |

Steve,I might suggest using a compatibilizer and compounding the scrap into a useable pellet, but the cost of doing so might be more expensive than buying virgin HIPS. If this technique is of any interest please let me know. Tom Cunningham Extrusion Technical Services

Hi TomI wondered if this was the only way. I've got some Finaprene, which Fina recommend for use as a compatibilizer, I'll have to speak nicely to my MBX compounder and get them to run some trials. Steve H IP: Logged |

For compatilizing EVOH, EVALCA has two available. One is GAF-30, and the cost is high. However, it works well. HINT - it (and the other)is NOT patented.IP: Logged |

I don't think LLDPE would stick to EVOH without a tie layer in between, but assuming they are stuck together, in the tray, how would a compatibilizer seperate the two, to allow them to be indiviudally compounded? IP: Logged |
