Please advise,1. What an extruder is and how it works. 2. I want to produce (my company) fish feed that floats and does not immediately break apart when thrown into the water. 3. The fish farm is a pilot project, therefore I need but a very small extruder (with whatever etc‚s required) and/or possibly use the same equipment to make a snack for human consumption to attain better equipment utilization. 4. This takes place in Africa (Nigeria) and available raw materials are limited (I can get peanuts). Also very rugged machinery would be preferable to a fully computerized system due to electricity supply and human resources problems. Natural gas (cooking gas) would be the preferred energy source. 5. We could probably get an Exim backed loan if the equipment is US made. That would help us with financing. IP: Logged |

hi we just started a fish farm (catfish and tilapia in the near future) in Foumban (Cameroon) which is a small town next to nigerian border I have purchased an extruder and we are still trying to make it work It can produce 500Kg per hour but we have not found yet the right formula to make floating pellets (as a matter of fact, we are not able to make pellets at all, which kills me!!!) I woul be pleased to provide you with information and/or finished product if I canbest regards Emmanuel roucher quote: Originally posted by mario: Please advise,1. What is the current formula? You will likely need a component in the formula that gives you a continuous phase of a gelatinous material. The starch from wheat, corn, or potato is commonly used for this purpose. The gel can then be foamed by the water in the mix by bringing the temperature above 100C. The mass can then likely be pelletized and will float. Tom C www.ExtrusionTech.com
