I am Saygin Celen, and a mechanical engineering master's student in the University of Massachusetts. I am working on my thesis, which is about feed extrusion. We have the apparatus to use for the feed extrusion ( feed extruder and the appliances). However, one of the requirements is to extract the final aquafeed product as 0.8 to 4 mm in diameter. And also we want to have floating and sinking aquafeeds, and we don't know what to do specifically. If we can develop a way to have that final product, school will sponsor to buy it. Please reply asap.IP: Logged |

I have limited knowledge of food extrusion, but this would seem to make sense:1) You will need a formula which is more dense than water in order for it to sink. 2) Typically foods foam when extruded and heated, therefore you can make a less dense than water material which will float. 3) Whether the product foams or not will depend on the starting formula and the processing conditions and what you need to do to the material in the extruder. 4) If the formula does not normally foam in the process, you might be able to inject water to get it to foam. 5) The die is the simple part. Usually a air swept die cutter is used. Handling the hot, soft, foamed product could be difficult. Tom C IP: Logged |
