I am new to Food Extrusion Equipment and have recently begun a failure review of a "unusual" screw design. The design includes a main shaft(20 L/D)inserted into/thru a glove shaft(splined connection) fitted with a support flange(fills annular space between main and glove shaft)and an external clamp(to rigidize the connection. I know we have some process issues to deal with(feed(soy flour) variability - material and rate), but I believe the mechanical design may be not be adequate. We regularly experience main shaft and glove failure at the support flange/clamp connection. Questions:1. Has anyone experience with this screw design? 2. Are there screw suppliers dedicated to food extruders that may be familiar with this design? IP: Logged |
