How can we measure the shrinkage rate of a particular material to compare it to the published rate?

Thanks,
Tom C

Tom C.:
Simply by using the same ASTM mold, and procedures to mold the Product Code usually posted with the published data.

Also note the % of precision in the ASTM procedure as well.

That's a good question Tom.

Even if you use the "same" ASTM mold, and procedures, I doubt that you can duplicate the results. Unless of course the "procedure" is so tight as to allow no change in process parameters that affect might shinkage.

Even then, you would need to duplicate the machine that the orignal tester used.

As you know, even in a simple "free" extrusion, the shrinkage can be changed by cooling, die size, run speed, melt temperature and the list goes on.

So given an ASTM mold, and procedures, you may have different pressures, packing, cooling time and that list goes on.

I hope someone comes back with a good answer, as I too would be interested.
