I run rather large parts in the range of 47 to 73 lbs per shot and we are investigating an alternate material. Currently we run this product in Copolymer PP and have had great success, but the drive is to move to a much more abrasion resistant material and we have gravitated towards a CoPolyester for many reasons. My question is have any of you had success running a CoPolyester in machien with a Mixing or Barrier Screw? It would seem to me this would not be a very good practice since you are adding quite a bit of shear to the material taht is already rather heat sensitive, your input would be appreciated.

Matthew,

Conventional screws could overheat, and barrier screws could underwork material. On average the converse is true, but you never know until you try it.

Personally I have made great efforts promoting trying out screw designs as a computer model. The computer model helps to see what is going on inside the plasticator and resolve problems before they arrive.

You get the picture. Call if you are further interested.
