NPE is coming in a few months.

Right now since the plastic business is in a bit of a slump, so I'm guessing that many prior attendees will not be going.

What is the feeling of this group? Is NPE gonna be a dud this year?

Bob: Unfortunately, I do feel it is going to be not only a dud, but a major dud this year.

1st: The US Visa is behind two to three months and it won't get better for travelers outside this Country.

2nd: Major past Booth takers are not there this year.

3rd: Some Original Equipment Suppliers say that they will be there - but without equipment.

4th: Cost of Air Travel has gone through the cieling.

5th: Most Companies may not allow their employees to attend due to "cost controls". This includes "local" Companies who's people can simply drive there.

I hope I'm wrong, but my prediction is that this will be a severe BUST to NPE. Attendance will be there, but I think it will be significantly lower than ever before.

There will be at least one 5 layer blown film line running at NPE, producing barrier film structures.

Zab,

That was the same feeling I had. I'll be there, however I'm not expecting a gangbusters turnout by any means...

Bob: The word is already out at our place and we are about 6-7 hours away, and no body will attend due to severe cost controls. Maybe I'll still go if I use my vacation time.

I hope they'll have a message board there as I'd like to personally meet you.

I've also heard talk of SARS fears causing concern about attending. However I will be there and at Antec. It amazes me how companies with sales problems will not take these oppotunities to sell themselves.

Tom C.: I agree. It's my understanding that many Companies will have "information booths" more so this year then ever before, as the cost of moving equipment, set-up, tear-down has gone up tremendously at the show.

As a business owner and/or operator I have found the fees charges at most show to be completely outrageous. Complaints to the show management are ignored. Stuff like having to rent an extension cord for $25/day and having to pay someone to "set it up" can make you angry beyond reason.

Tom C.:
I've heard about the same, and it is not only a UNION mandate, but purportedly a FIRE CODE safety reason I'm told. If you recall, a fire destroyed the fire "FIRE RESISTNT" McCormick Place on Chicago's lake front many years ago. Your not even to plug into a pre-installed phone jack - even though you've paid for one at a booth. UNION rules + ubnoxious fees.

Although made of steel, the designers forgot about free air that fueled the flames.

Cost's for moving equipment too is outragous.

Many Companies have been burnt over and over, and this year's backlash - not directly atributed to a "boycot" still will not change things.

The City of Chicago swells from "new" booth dwellers every few years.
