Any idea for the ideal wear resistant screw and barrel finishes to use to minimize wear?

You can minimize wear problems by downstream feeding the tungsten on a W&P type twin screw. Use gear elements for mixing rather than kneading blocks. Feeder selection for the tungsten requires some forethought.

If your compounding by adding everything to the throat of a single screw, I would use very hard materials. Xalloy 800 or Wexco 777 for the barrel, Stellite 6 for the screw root, and Colmonoy 83 for the flight tips.

If you are just running lab samples, then anything will work for a while. Typical compounds with tungsten have a high % by weight, but a low % by volume. All of that polymer will protect the screw and barrel.
