I am working in Poly-propylene manufacturing plant. We have twin screw counter rotating mixer. Extruder vent port has been provided with cooling jacket with cooling water. From manual I understand that this is to avoid degradation of polymer sticking to the vent port wall. What are the other advatages of cooling the vent port? We feel that because of cooling of vent port it causes blocking of vent port. Instead of cooling can we provide heating with steam. What are the pros and cons of the heating/cooling the vent port. Can anybody elaborate me on this issue. Thanks in advance.

If this is a Welding Engineers extruder, you can get technical support from NFM,
(330) 837-3868

If not, please tell us if this is a non-intermeshing twin screw, or partially intermensing or fully. Do the screws turn down at the vent or up?
