Can any one advice me regarding relevance of not using breaker plate for compounding Nylon, I can also say may be glass filled Nylon, Actually i was trying to use a breaker plate for our 45 mm twin screw extruder, the breaker plate had 6 mm dia holes and processing 40% glass filled Nylon, i had encountered a problem of materaial degradation. ie colour change to yellow from white. i have to stop the machine and get the breaker plate out. i did not had any blockage in front of breaker plate. so i did not understand the reason. the breaker plate had less dead spots, chamfered. could any one help IP: Logged |

Visu,Many twin screw extruders are made without a breaker plate. If you want to melt filter your compound, then a breaker plate is required to support the filter screens. You can substitue a open plate for the breaker plate without ptoblem. The seal surfaces the breaker plate supplies are still required. I've compounded 100 million Kg plus of glass filled nylon. The only times I've seen it go from white to other colors is: A change in resin source A change in vent vacuum level A change in fiberglass supply I've yet to see nylon overheated in compounding, but there is always a first time. What are your RPMs and Kg/hr? ------------------ Best Regards, Tom Cunningham www.ExtrusionTechnicalServices.com IP: Logged |

Maybe over drying if indeed you are drying before processing. IP: Logged |
